La Poste Réunion Island expands investment in unaddressed mail automation

The postal operator on Réunion Island, La Poste, has invested in another two Duplo DM230V Collators to add to the four machines purchased in 2015.

Turnaround times for collating unaddressed mail sets are becoming shorter, so the new investment is needed to increase productivity.

Each set consists of at least 4 advertising leaflets, using one of the leaflets as a wraparound cover to hold the set together, and all sets must be collated within 10 hours, ready for distribution to the island’s 200,000 households each week.

By installing a long conveyor at the end of the line, each machine can be run by just two operators.  Stacks of collated sets are then accumulated during production, so that they can be banded up manually and palletised while the machine is being set up ready to run the next set configuration.

“Minimising the number of staff collating sets not only reduces our costs, but also helps to keep to the social distancing guidelines in the current crisis,” explains Yannick Hoareau the project Manager.

Located south of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, the French territory officially became the most outer reach region of the EU in 2014 after a referendum was held five years previously.

“It is vital that the equipment is reliable because of the distances involved if something goes wrong.”

With over 9,000 Esper Collator installations worldwide at postal operators, private distribution companies, newspaper publishers and fulfilment centres, Duplo’s small, simple to use entry-level systems are the ideal next step to manual collating, offering 100% set integrity.  Or as a complement to larger automated systems, by handling a wider range of document formats & offering higher short run productivity.

Their relatively low cost, low maintenance and simple installation particularly suit today's uncertain changes and challenges, by offering greater location flexibility and a quicker ROI.
