Back in November 2018, having tired of the daily commute and grind into London, Harriet came across the newly created Digital Marketing Manager role based at Duplo’s head office, in Addlestone. After researching the Duplo brand and firstly finding out that it wasn’t Lego ??, but it was in fact a strong, trusted and competitive leader within the print finishing world, she jumped at the opportunity to take on the role of Digital Marketing Manager and started building a plan to expand Duplo’s online presence.
Having come from outside the Print industry enabled Harriet to learn about a new business sector, with a fresh perspective and to bring new energy to the brand and its online presence.
Describe a day/week in the life of a Digital Marketing Manager?
My day to day tasks can be fairly broad, whether I’m planning our Digital marketing content schedule, writing articles, organising online campaigns, which can be e-shots, videos or infographics. On a daily basis I’m tracking Duplo’s online engagement, reviewing what’s popular, but also making sure that we’re capturing potential leads. Lastly, I’m working on the long journey of improving Duplo’s SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) which is supported by all the above aspects, but also involves a lot of technical work to make sure our website and online activity rank successfully across all our regions.
What makes your job exciting?
Having previously not worked within the Print business, I’m learning something new every day. I’ve learnt so much about print and print finishing during my time at Duplo, but still have so much more to learn.
It’s also exciting being able to share and teach others internally how digital marketing can help them with their business goals.
What is your biggest responsibility?
To maintain and grow Duplo’s online visibility. There are many aspects involved to make this successful and digital marketing is always evolving and growing, so it’s a big responsibility to stay up to date with the latest trends and make sure that Duplo are maximising the opportunities from new developments.
What is the hardest part of your role?
A huge challenge of my job role is being able to manage and collate all of our tracking and analytics to gain the best possible knowledge of the market place. This includes gathering data on customers full journey’s from consideration to a lead and final purchase. The better we get at doing this, the more knowledge we will have to show the contributions that Digital marketing has to Duplo’s goals. As well as having the knowledge to deliver the most effective and engaging content possible.
How much have you changed as a professional and personally since joining Duplo?
In my short time at Duplo I’ve already grown massively in both my print and digital knowledge. Having worked at my previous organisation for most of my career I’ve also gained skills and confidence in working in a new business environment.
What is the best piece of advice that you would give to a person thinking about getting into Digital Marketing?
Being open to any opportunity to learn is massively valuable, you may not know how to do or solve something straight away but if you’re willing to spend time to learn you will gain new skills for the future.
Use three words to best describe yourself?
Friendly, creative, hardworking
If you could do any other job for a day, what would it be?
Something active, where I get to spend my day outside. Perhaps a ski instructor.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
In the alps, where there are proper seasons and tonnes of adventure. Or by the coast somewhere!
What’s your favourite film?
A real girly one; 10 things I hate about you. Mostly because of the young Heath Ledger ??
Who is your hero?
I wouldn’t say I have a single hero, my friends and family are my heroes for always being great support and company.
What is your biggest fear?
I am not scared of spiders, bugs, rats or snakes but do hate being home alone when its dark out.
What really makes you angry?
When the kitchen cupboards are empty of chocolate!
