Hampshire based THEMPC Limited are a marketing production company who have recently built their own print production facility, to bring their entire portfolio of work in-house and to bring a consistent quality of work to their customers. THEMPC partnered with ASL Group for their print and finishing requirements by purchasing a new Canon imagePRESS C810, Duplo DBM-150 booklet maker and the Duplo DC-618 multi finisher.
“This investment into a 10,000sqm production facility with in-house studio and new equipment from a blank sheet of paper means that we can bring the majority of our customer work in-house, keep the quality consistent and turn the job around much faster,” says Paul Marsh, Managing Director of THEMPC. “We have a broad range of clients from Start-ups through to established global brands and everything in-between. Our wish is to continue to facilitate our clients’ needs whilst growing both our end-user and trade clients. With the new facility being opened and our newly launched THEMPC Europe and it’s operations hub in Munich, we can now do just that. This is the first project we have worked on with ASL, and together we specified the complete print solution with them from start to finish. We visited all the major print and finishing partners over a number of months to establish the right set-up for us. The partnership established with ASL is a long term relationship and we will continue to work with them as we grow the business.”
“Through ASL we chose the Duplo DC-618 slitter, cutter, creaser as we felt this was the best machine in the market to achieve our vision of an end-to-end fully automated print facility. The Duplo DBM-150 was chosen as an entry level booklet maker but stood out against the competition with its flexibility on size and number of pages.” The Duplo automation was key to our decision-making process, this along with our other investments provides us with considerable output requiring limited human interaction. The equipment has given us the ability to manufacture 100% in-house from start to finish, giving us complete control over costs, timings and services to our clients, giving us the ability to reduce production lead-times significantly whilst improving finished quality. We’re hoping that the new equipment will help us grow further and bring in business from new markets too.”
The Duplo DC-618 is one of Duplo’s most advanced multi finisher devices. It is compact yet powerful, able to slit, cut, crease, and perf in one pass depending on the modules that have been installed. The DC-618 is able to deliver 23 sheets a minute without white borders and toner cracking for a clean, consistent and high quality finish. Automated traditionally cut jobs, the DC-618 can be integrated with EFI Fiery and is built for unattended running. With it’s new graphical user interface, the entire finishing process is PC driven, and requires minimal training and supervision to delivery really high quality straight line work.
The Duplo DBM-150 booklet maker is their entry level booklet production unit but is also their widest selling. With the smallest footprint in its class, the DBM-150 Booklet maker and Trimmer is a compact integrated system that sets up automatically from job memories to staple, fold and fore-edge trim to create a booklet or flat document. A wide variety of booklet formats from smaller-than-CD to A4 portrait finished size are possible. The ease-of-use is further enhanced by staple heads which use easy-change cartridges and can be replaced with a loop-staple version to form ring staples suitable for filing.
ASL are the UK’s largest independent supplier of digital printing equipment to the commercial print sector and are accredited partners of all major manufacturers including Duplo and Canon who were the brands of choice for THEMPC. Will Doherty, CIP Systems Director for ASL says “Working with Paul and his team has been a great experience for us. From our first meeting it was clear that Paul had big plans for his business, and we are delighted that he has chosen to partner with ASL. We carried out thorough testing on a number of devices in through the decision making process and Paul chose the Duplo & Canon as best fit or his requirements.”
Opened in 2022, The MPC’s new print production facility includes the Canon Imagepress C810, DC-618 and DBM-150 from ASL, along with; Matrix Metallic Laminator and Digital Foiling Machine, Vivid Veloblade, Renz DTP340 Auto Wire Punch and Closing Machine, Uchida VS25 Paper Drill, Roland LEF200 UV Printer, Roland 540Spi Large Format Printer, Easymount Large Format Laminator, DYSS X5 CAD Table and more all run by 10 staff.
Paul Marsh continues, “Installation and training by ASL and Duplo went extremely well, and we were provided with all of the necessary training and have now successfully run a number of jobs through the booklet-maker. It is always easier to run jobs and actually use the machines rather than discussing the theory and what it could do. Everything was very straightforward especially the ease of use on the DC-618 interface, it made the training very easy to follow.”
“We will continue to grow the new print facility and invest in more equipment. We are an innovative, technology led business and will use the software front end to work with the Fiery workflow to make the most out of our print engine and the Duplo DC-618.”
