Duplo is top of the class for energy efficiency and environmental campaigns. The print finishing pioneer is celebrating after being accredited for using energy that is 100% generated from renewable resources.

Total Gas and Power Ltd has awarded Duplo a Renewable Energy Supply Certificate for its international headquarters, Automation Precision House, in Addlestone, Surrey.

Since moving there five years ago, Duplo has launched a series of initiatives to ensure best energy and environmental practices. Starting with a Derby University-commissioned environmental Ecotect Report, Duplo has been on a mission to become carbon neutral.

The roof has solar power panels and a bank of wind catchers funneling fresh air directly into the offices. Sun pipes bring natural light into the building and water collected from rainwater channels is used to flush toilets.

Special hand driers reduce carbon emissions by 70%, air source heat pumps regulate the temperature, while recycling points have reduced Duplo’s landfill waste by a third. There is raised awareness for ISO14001 certification, which is already held by parent company Duplo Corporation, while 90% of its sales are now for products sourced from factories that have the same accreditation.

Sarah Crumpler, Duplo UK Marketing Manager, said: “Duplo takes its responsibilities to its staff, the communities we serve and to the environment seriously, while staff have some fun at the same time. We’ve organised numerous fund-raising initiatives for charities, often enlisting the practical support of customers and suppliers as well. Duplo’s not just a great and friendly company that has the best print finishing systems on the market, it also has the best staff too who have boundless energy and a commitment to the environment!”
