X1 Limited, Slough based fulfilment and marketing company have purchased and installed a new PFi Blade B2 digital cutting table as part of their recent endeavour to bring their large format printing and finishing, in-house.

“This marks a significant transition from our previous practice of outsourcing these tasks.” Says George Eckford, Managing Director of X1 Limited. “By bringing this capability under our roof, we are now positioned to offer our clients a more productive and competitive service. This shift has not only enhanced our existing offerings but has also opened up new avenues for business, allowing us to actively seek out and engage with new clients.”

“The PFi Blade B2 represents our first step toward expanding our large format printing capabilities, a strategic move to grow our business,” explains George, “We only just had the PFi Blade installed this week, however, having total control over our production and costs internally is a significant advantage. This will undoubtedly enhance the quality of service we provide to our clients.”

The Duplo PFi Blade B2 Digital Cutting table comes standard with several tools designed to process various types of substrates and thicknesses. Utilising the PFi Blade Connect software, the triple tooling head follows the lines instructed on the cutting file to finish applications into any shape desired. With the PFi Blade, companies can enter new markets and revenue streams with on-demand packaging. Digital finishing for custom boxes, labels, and retail displays in shorter runs.

“We chose this particular model for its size and sheet capacity,” says George, speaking about the machine itself. “Given our current clients’ needs, which are predominantly based around the B2 format, and our limited factory floor space, this machine was the perfect fit. It ticks all the right boxes in terms of both performance and practicality.”

“Our operators have just begun their training, and so far, everything looks positive. The machine’s ease of use and compact size are standout features that have made the transition smooth and promising. The installation was seamless, and completed in less than 30 minutes with minimal disruption to production. Training has been equally efficient, with the machine operational within an hour and our operator hands-on within a few hours.”

“We are delighted with the level of service received from Duplo. The transition has been effortless, reflecting Duplo's commitment to customer satisfaction. We found this last time when we invested in Duplo equipment, which included a booklet maker, die cutter, and guillotine bought alongside our Xerox 4100. Acquired two years ago, these machines have been running flawlessly ever since, reinforcing our confidence in Duplo’s products.”

With a well-defined strategy in place, X1 aims to increase both revenue and their client base over the next 12 months. This growth plan includes the acquisition of two small businesses and significant investment in new equipment. Operating out of a 7500 sq ft factory and employing 14 staff members, 75% of their business revolves around fulfilment, with the remainder dedicated to print, design, and large format services.

“I’ve known George for a number of years, and I realised the Duplo solution would be ideal for what he was trying to achieve.” Says Lyle Rainey, Regional Sales Manager for Duplo. “They've always had their customers at the forefront of their business and people are at the centre of their company, it’s no surprise when you look at their charitable initiatives. Currently they along with a London-based property developer are trying to raise £100K to transform a disused farm in Uganda into a respite and therapy retreat for children at risk or with learning issues. This retreat will offer a safe space for vulnerable children to explore, grow, and learn through animal therapy, sports, forest school, and art education. It’s just one of many ways that X1 are giving back to the community.”

George carries on, “At X1, sustainability is at the heart of our operations. As proud participants in the Green Scheme, we support the Woodland Trust and have planted over 300,000 trees through our carbon capture project, raising £1.26 million for the cause. Our commitment to eco-friendly practices makes us one of the market leaders in the fulfilment industry. Our Ugandan project is just taking off but with events pencilled in for late summer, such as a summer ball at Chertsey Town FC and then another 12-person trip booked for early next year with skilled contractors onboard alongside Luxe Projects London we are hopeful of completing this project.”

“Our venture into large format printing is more than just a business expansion; it’s a commitment to enhancing our service, growing our client base, and contributing positively to our community. With the support of Duplo and our dedicated team, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and the positive impact we can make.”
