La Poste's New Investment to Reduce Turnaround Times | Duplo

New investment for La Poste French Guiana to help sustain its USO and reduce turnaround times

How to minimise the impact of a decrease in addressed mail volumes and instead drive growth from re-discovered unaddressed mail?

Such is the question that drove La Poste, the postal operator on French Guiana, to invest in its first ever Duplo DM230V PRO Collator, which will help sustain their future USO.

Unaddressed mail is gaining traction and has become a more effective and popular advertising medium, now that its population is spending more time at home. But it doesn’t come without challenges, from dealing with a wide range of formats to increasingly tight turnaround times. This is when the Duplo DM230V PRO Collator comes into its own. Its relatively low cost, low maintenance and simple installation particularly suit today's uncertain changes and challenges, by offering greater location flexibility and a quicker ROI.

“We saw the successful experience of our postal colleagues in Martinique & Guadeloupe with the Duplo Esper Collators” explains Mr Wong (Financial Manager).  “With turnaround times for collating unaddressed mail sets becoming shorter, and the need for social distancing in the current crisis, the change from manual to automated collation will both increase our productivity and minimise the number of staff required.”

Each set consists of at least 4 advertising leaflets, using one of the leaflets as a wraparound cover to hold the set together, and all sets must be collated within 8 hours, ready for distribution to the island’s 60,000 households each week.

By installing a long conveyor at the end of the line, each machine can be run by just two operators.  Stacks of collated sets are then accumulated during production, so that they can be banded up manually and palletised while the machine is being set up ready to run the next set configuration.

French Guiana is an overseas department and region of France on the northern Atlantic coast of South America in the Guianas. It borders Brazil to the east and south and Suriname to the west. French Guiana is the only territory of the mainland Americas to have full integration in a European country, and is the largest outermost region within the European Union.

With over 9,000 Esper Collator installations worldwide at postal operators, private distribution companies, newspaper publishers and fulfilment centres, Duplo’s small, simple to use entry-level systems are the ideal next step to manual collating, offering 100% set integrity.  They are also ideal as a complement to larger automated systems, because they can handle a wider range of document formats & offering higher short run productivity.
