New Duplo DC-618 installation at Impremta Palafrugell

Written by EMG - February 2026

Impremta Palafrugell is a family business located on the Costa Brava, specialising in offset and digital printing. Over the years, it has successfully combined tradition with adaptation to new technologies to deliver high-quality work, although its small team and peak demand during high season presented a constant challenge.

Their latest addition to the finishing area has been the Duplo DC-618 machine , a piece of equipment that combines cutting, creasing and perforating in a single automated system, optimising processes and improving the efficiency of the entire printing company.

We interviewed Marta, the owner of the printing company, to find out what the addition of this machine has meant for her workflow.

What was the workflow and limitations before incorporating the DC-618?

The workflow was entirely manual: cutting was done with a guillotine and creasing and perforating were done with separate machines. Each job required multiple steps and several people to complete.
“We worked well, but everything took longer. Sometimes we felt trapped with so many manual tasks. We couldn’t imagine a machine that would allow us to work any other way.”

Furthermore, the staff had shrunk over the years: from 11 people 20 years ago to only 4 currently, making it difficult to maintain speed and quality, especially during peak demand.

What reasons made you decide on the Duplo DC-618?

Initially, Palafrugell thought they only needed a creasing machine, as the guillotine cutting worked perfectly. However, upon discovering the capabilities of the DC-618, their perception changed:
“We were amazed by the DC-618: it creases, cuts, and perforates, all in one machine. We suddenly realised it was much more than we had expected.”

The machine offered an automation opportunity they had not previously considered, integrating several functions into a single piece of equipment and greatly simplifying their workflow.

How has your way of working changed since their arrival?

The DC-618 allowed for a rethinking of work organisation and the adoption of a more modern and efficient mindset. Now, with just one person, tasks that previously required several hours and several operators can be performed:
"Before, a job could take 3 hours; now it's done in 10 minutes. It's wonderful."

Furthermore, the machine has become indispensable for maintaining productivity during peak seasons and has allowed for workload management without the need to increase staff:
“Investing in the right technology is not a luxury, it’s essential for survival. It’s now part of our daily routine and we couldn’t imagine working without it.”

Benefits observed since its implementation

  • Significant reduction in production times.
  • Possibility of performing several operations with a single operator.
  • Greater speed and efficiency in finishing work.
  • Adaptation to production peaks without the need for additional personnel.
  • A change in mindset towards a more modern and efficient way of organising processes.

The experience of Imprenta Palafrugell with the Duplo DC-618 demonstrates how automation and the right technology can transform work in a family business, optimising resources, improving productivity and maintaining the same quality as always.

With the DC-618, Palafrugell has not only improved its workflow and reduced times but has also consolidated a more sustainable and efficient way of working, adapted to the current needs of the printing sector.
